How Should We Use Our Money?
Biblical Guidelines on the Personal Use of Money
Introduction:
Whether in marriage relationships or in political affairs, the use of money
can be a source of great conflict and hardship. The Bible offers a number of
guidelines to help us determine how the Lord would have us to use our money.
I.
Priorities.
A. We Cannot Serve God and Mammon.
(Matt. 6:24).
B. The Love of Money is a Root of All Evil (1 Tim.
6:6-10).
II.
Giving.
A. We Are Given the Skill to Work So That
We Might Have to Give to Others (Eph. 4:28).
1. We Are to Do Good to All As We Have
Opportunity (Gal. 6:10).
B. Giving in the Church is to Be Offered
as One Purposes in the Heart (2 Cor. 9:7-8).
1. It Is Not The Size of the Gift That
Concerns the Lord (Mark 12:41-44).
2. We Will Reap As We Have Sown (2 Cor. 9:6).
III.
Stewardship.
A. All that we are Given is a Trust from
The Lord (Psa. 24:1).
B. God Has Given Man Authority Over His
Possessions (Acts 5:3-4).
1. Excessive Debt is a Trap Christians Should Avoid
(Prov. 22:26-27).
IV.
Leisure and Enjoyment.
A. God Denies Lustful Aspirations (Jas.
4:1-3).
B. It Is Fitting For God’s People to
Enjoy the Fruits of their Labor (Ecc. 5:18-20).
