The Strong Church
Introduction. Read:
Ephesians 6:10-11. This text talks about spiritual strength. This morning I
would like for us to consider for a few minutes what the Bible teaches is
necessary for a church to have this spiritual strength.
What
makes a church strong?
I.
Not…
A. Large
numbers (Deut. 7:6-8; Matt. 7:13-14).
B. Riches
(James 2:5; 5:1-5; 1 Tim. 6:9-10; Rev. 3:15-18).
C. Worldly
wisdom (1 Cor. 1:19-21; James 3:13-18).
D. Social
class (1 Cor. 1:26-27; Mark 12:37).
II.
What makes a church strong is…
A. Members
truly converted to Christ (Matt. 18:1-3; John 3:3-5; Col. 3:1-2).
B. Members
“rich in faith” (Matt. 6:19-21; 1 Tim. 6:17-19; Rom. 4:20-21).
C. Members
wise in the word of God (John 8:31-32; Eph. 5:17; 2 Tim. 3:14-15).
D. Members
willing to work (Eph. 2:10; Phil. 2:12-13; 1 Cor. 15:58).
Conclusion.
May
we strive to be “rich in faith,” wise in God’s word, working diligently in
service to the Lord as those truly converted to Jesus Christ, that this
congregation might be “strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
