The Importance of Teaching the
 Bible to Our Children

Introduction. In a few weeks our children will go back to school. We will all be busy working with them on homework, taking them to school and trying to help them learn and get good grades. This is important because we understand without a good education they will be at a definite disadvantage:

·         Jobs
·         Opportunities
·         Contacts

Education also helps us in society. We learn how to identify problems and find solutions. We learn how to communicate properly. Most of us wouldn’t dream of neglecting this type of education. That’s good as long as it doesn’t lead us to neglect our service to the Lord.

There is a kind of education which is even more important.  This is teaching our children the Bible. There are a number of sources of this type of education:

·         Bible Classes
·         Sermons
·         Special classes
·         Personal Study

What is the most important source? Read: Ephesians 6:4.

Let’s talk about how we might understand the importance of teaching the Bible to our children.

I. Why Is It Important.

A. They need to be taught what is right (Proverbs 22:6,15).

B.  They need to be trained to do right (Ephesians 6:4; Hebrews 12:11).

C. They need to be shown what is right (Titus 2:1-5).

II. Examples of Children Taught by Their Parents.

A. Moses (Hebrews 11:23-25).

1.  He was taught well in a short time.

2.  Taught about true riches.

B. Timothy (2 Timothy 1:3-5; 3:14-15).

1.  Scripture was known to him from childhood.

2.      Their faith was passed on.

3.      Sometimes this may be a difficult task (Acts 16:1).

C. Jesus (Luke 2:41-52. cf. Hebrews 4:14,15).

D. Samuel (1 Samuel 1:19-28).

Conclusion. Let us do all that we can to educate our children in the things that are eternally important.
