Heaven’s Concern for the Lost

Introduction.  (1 Timothy 2:1-4).  We all appreciate it when people demonstrate concern for us. When we are: 1) Sick; 2) Sad; 3) Worried; 4) Confused

We value sympathy but appreciate even more those who can ease a burden we bear.  This text tells us that God is concerned about man.  He is concerned that we might be saved.  Yet, He is not alone. Heaven as a whole is concerned for the lost.  This morning let’s talk about this fact so that we might realize  (if we don’t already) heaven’s concern for the lost.

I.  God the Father is Concerned.

A. He is called “our Savior” (1 Timothy 1:1).

B. He saves us…

 1. By His love (Romans  5:6-8).

 2. By His grace (Titus. 2:11-15).

 3. By His mercy (Titus 3:4-7).

 4. By His patience (2 Peter 3:9; Romans 2:2-4).

II. Christ is Concerned.

A. He, too, is our Savior (Matthew 1:21;  Luke 2:8-11).

B. He saves…

 1. By His blood (Revelation 1:4-6).

 2. By His gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-2).

 3. By His authority (Matthew 28:16-20; Revelation 1:18).

III. The Holy Spirit is Concerned.

A. He is the Spirit of Truth  (John 16:12-13; 2 Peter 1:3) “All things that pertain to life and godliness.”  He still works in the sense that when we allow His work to work in our hearts - it is Him working in us.  (Example: Write a letter asking someone to do something—it is you speaking to the person in the letter).

1. He convicts us of our sins (John 16:8,9;  Hebrews 4:12)  Word of God is “discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

2. He invites us to come (Revelation 22:17 (by the message - 2 Thessalonians 2:13,14 - called by the gospel).

3. He wants to dwells in us (Titus 3:5-6 again,   “through Faith” - Ephesians 3:14-17). Christ dwells in us “through faith”  Romans 8:5  We are led by the Spirit when we set our mind on the things of the Spirit.

IV.  The Angels are Concerned.

A.  They rejoice when the lost are saved (Luke 15:7-10).  This proves that they know who is saved and who is lost and the precise moment of salvation.

Conclusion.  Heaven is concerned for the lost, but God’s children are also.  The Christians at this place urge you if you have never been obedient to the gospel to act upon heaven’s concern for you in obedience to the gospel.
