One Of The Most Powerful Words in the Bible

Introduction. The word “if” is a very powerful word. It communicates a condition, necessary for something to occur. All throughout the Bible we see examples of the use of this word. In this lesson we will consider how it is used in Scripture and the powerful lessons which this teaches us.

I. It Teaches Us About The Nature of Gospel Teaching.

  1. All Scripture must be taken together (John 5:44-47).
  2. The lost fail to see their need fro the gospel (II Corinthians 4:2-4).
  3. The Gospel often displeases men (Galatians 1:8-10).

II. It Teaches Us About What Is Necessary For Salvation.

  1. The right heart.
    1. “Ears to hear” (Mark 7:14-16).
    2. A willingness to sacrifice (Luke 14:26).
  2. The right relationship (John 10:7-9).
    1. In Christ (II Corinthians 5:17).
    2. Outside of Christ (II John 9).
  3. The right response to Jesus.
    1. Belief (John 8:21-24; Matthew 16:18).
    2. Baptism (Romans 6:3-8).

III. It Teaches Us About the Importance of Faithful Obedience (John 10:27-29).
